Brent Brown,
Investigator
Responsibilities: Financial management, grant management and staff management.
Education: Graduate of Decatur Central High School and attended IUPUI
Responsibilities: Brown is responsible for analyzing initial allegations and making recommendations for further investigative resources. He conducts investigations, including interviewing witnesses to gather information about criminal activities, and collecting and developing information from sources for investigative purposes. He helps recognize, develop and present evidence including, but not limited to, drafting incident reports and/or probable cause affidavits, and maintaining statistics for use in crime analysis and incident trends for local law enforcement.
General information: Brown has over 14 years of law enforcement experience, and in addition to his responsibilities with the Hancock County Prosecutor’s office, he also serves as a Reserve Police Officer with the Town of Cumberland Metropolitan Police Department, a position which he has held for nearly eight years. He is a criminal investigator and has served as lead investigator on numerous property, financial and crimes against persons investigations, and has assisted with homicide investigations for the Cumberland Police Department. Brown is a certified law enforcement instructor and has taught several law enforcement courses including courses on financial exploitation investigations and mental health first aid. Prior to joining the Hancock County Prosecutor’s Office, Mr. Brown served as an Adult Protective Services Investigator with the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office, where he investigated cases involving the alleged abuse, neglect, and exploitation of endangered adults. While in that position, Mr. Brown developed a specialization in the investigation of financial crimes, resulting in a substantial increase in the prosecution of such crimes in Marion County.
