INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) — An IMPD officer is in serious trouble with the law.
The Hancock County Prosecutor filed charges against Derek Ethridge.
Ethridge is facing felony battery charges for an incident May 1. He’s accused of battery resulting in bodily injury on a person under the age of 14.
Hancock County court records show the officer will have initial hearing May 6 at 3:30 p.m.
Ethridge joined IMPD in 2015. As a new recruit, he went from making a starting salary of $40,739 in 2016 to a current salary of $77,138.84, according to public records.
The details of his battery charge are part of court documents filed with the Hancock County clerk.
Sources told Eyewitness News Ethridge has been placed on administrative leave.
If he’s convicted, he won’t be able to retain his position as an IMPD officer.
